>>> Jeptoo B-test confirms positive doping test

RITA-JEPTOO-FACE NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 19 – Two-time Boston and double Chicago marathon champion Rita Jeptoo has failed the B sample analysis for banned substance EPO.

Athletics Kenya said in a statement late Friday that it had received the results of the tests which followed her request after she failed tests on the first sample.

“The results of the analysis of the B sample which was conducted on 17th to 19th December 2014 at the WADA accredited laboratory of Lausanne confirmed the finding of the A sample,” read the statement.

“Consequently, Athletics Kenya will constitute the hearing of this case early January, 2015.”

Jeptoo caused international consternation when she became the biggest Kenyan distance runner to be caught in the doping web when her A-Sample returned adverse results for banned blood booster EPO.

“The case involving this athlete was in regard to the urine sample collected out of competition in Eldoret on 25th September 2014. The sample provided revealed the presence of prohibited substance Erythropoietin (EPO).

“The first hearing for this case was held on 4th November 2014. The athlete applied for the testing of the B sample which will be conducted on 17th to 19th December 2014. Athletics Kenya will resume working on this case once the results of the B sample are announced,” an AK statement on doping said.

Jeptoo’s shocking drug bust was revealed days before she left for New York to accept her equal share of the USD 1m World Marathon Majors jackpot after she successfully held on to her Chicago crown following a repeat triumph in Boston in April.
