ACCRA, Ghana, April 24- Ghana Black Stars coach James Kwasi Appiah has named a provisional 30-man squad for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, according to reports in the local media.
The list, said to have been leaked to the media on Wednesday, was widely publicized.
According to the state-run Ghana News Agency, Appiah named Leicester City’s Jeff Schlupp and England-based Emmanuel Frimpong in his squad for the summer tournament.
Schlupp was named among the 10 selected defenders of the 30 players in the list expected to be pruned to 23 for the competition.
Frimpong is among 12 midfielders expected to begin preparations on May 26 ahead of the World Cup, Ghana’s third in succession.
According to the source, Aduana Star’s goalkeeper Stephen Adams remains the only locally-based player in the team with four goalkeepers.
Also named in the squad is Italian Serie A side Sassoulo’s Yussif Raman Chibsah.
Making a return after months of absence are Anthony Annan and Isaac Vorsah.
Appiah is said to have presented the list to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) ahead of the official submission to the global body, Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) next month.
The GFA is however yet to comment on the leaked list.
Ghana has been drawn in Group G of the FIFA World Cup alongside the United States, Germany and Portugal, and will play its opening Group game at the Arena das Dunas in Natal against the United States.
