Giggs started his temporary tenure with an emphatic win, a brace apiece from Rooney and Juan Mata sealing a comfortable 4-0 victory over relegation-threatened Norwich at Old Trafford on Saturday evening.
And, it seems the club’s players are more than happy to have the 40-year-old at the helm, although Rooney was keen to point out that the decision on the next manager will be made by the club’s board.
However, if Saturday’s performance and result are anything to go by, the Red Devils could do a lot worse than appointing Giggs in a permanent capacity.
“It’s strange, I’ve played with him for the last 10 years. Giggsy’s come in and we all know Giggsy is a really experienced player,” Rooney told Sky Sports.
“He’s been part of the coaching staff for the season. He’s built to be a manager, as a team we can see that.
“We can see that by how he’s handled himself since he took over so it was fantastic to go out there and get the win for him.
“When pressed on wether he thought Giggs should be handed the reins on a permanent deal, Rooney added: “That’s down to the board, obviously. I think Giggsy has got all of the credentials to be a manager but that’s down to the board.”
Meanwhile, fellow two-goal hero Mata echoed the sentiments of his team-mate, saying it is a pleasure to work under the United legend.
Mata said: “For me, it’s a pleasure to play under this manager. When I was a kid I remember him playing. He is a proper Man United boy.
“It’s a pleasure to be with him in the training ground and at the game, but it’s not down to us.”
