NAIROBI, Kenya, May 27 – AFC Leopards are through to the quarterfinals of the ongoing Cecafa Nile Basin Cup with a game to spare after overcoming Tanzania’s Mbeya City 2-0 in their second Group B match in Khartoum, Sudan.
Uganda Cranes midfielder Musa Mudde gave Ingwe the lead in the 30th minute before speedy winger Paul Were doubled the advantage five minutes later after rounding off Mbeya’s defence.
Newly appointed coach Hendrik Pieter de Jongh retained the same squad that won the opener by the same score line against Enticelles of Rwanda as their team doctor finally arrived to the technical bench after missing the first match.
“For the Team Doctor Patrick Ngusale missing in the first match that was organiser’s mistake since they sent an air ticket that did not have his correct name so they had to pay for another one and that’s why he departed today,” club Secretary General, George Aladwa told Capital Sport on Monday.
Dr Mohammed Said from Police of Zanzibar volunteered his services for the opening match when Leopards turned up without a medic.
Leopards top of the Pool on six points and face Burundi’s Academie for their last preliminary round match on Wednesday.
