NAIROBI, Kenya, August 25 –New Harambee Stars head coach Bobby Williamson has named 11 new call-ups in his 28 man provisional squad for Saturday’s international friendly against Egypt in Cairo.
Defenders Shaban Odoji, Bernard Odhiambo (Nakuru All Stars), Sammy Meja (Thika United), Charles Odette (Sony Sugar), Jackson Saleh (AFC Leopards) Dennis Ng’anga (Tusker FC) and Duncan Kago (Sofapaka FC) are among the fresh faces in a squad that contains only three playing outside the country.
Tusker forward Jesse Were, John Ndirangu (All Stars), Timothy Otieno (Gor Mahia) and Gerson Likono (Chemelil Sugar) round up the list of debutants.
El-Merreikh forward Allan Wanga, Khartoum FC midfielder Anthony Akumu and South Africa based David Gateri make up the trio based outside the borders.
Notable regulars dropped from Belgian head coach Adel Amrouche’s regime include defenders Musa Mohammed (Gor), right-back James Situma (Leopards) and centre-back Jockins Atudo (Tusker).
Peter Opiyo, Francis Kahata and former MC Algiers forward Edwin Lavatsa have also been dropped.
The team is expected to report to camp Tuesday at Kasarani Sports Complex as Williamson prepares for his first match since succeeding Belgian Amrouche, who has not been formally fired after Kenya crashed out of the 2015 Afcon second round qualifiers to Lesotho.
Football Kenya Federation is yet to make the position of Amrouche, who’s one-year CAF ban was slashed to six games on appeal last weekend, clear.
The Belgian signed a five-year contract last year and FKF boss, Sam Nyamweya, denied last week that he had been fired.
