KCB man-up Homeboyz for Dala 7s glory

KCB-DALA-7S KISUMU, August 10- KCB won the Safaricom Dala Sevens with a 21-5 final win over Homeboyz RFC in the final played at the ASK Mamboleo Showground in Kisumu City on Sunday, their second series triumph on the bounce following their Kabeberi 7s honours a week earlier.

The game was a close affair early on, Homeboyz asking all the questions of KCB but they were caught cold when Philip Wamae spotted a gap in the Homeboyz defence, exploited it and scored under the posts with Ken Moseti converting for a 7-0 lead.

Edwin Salamba stretched KCB’s lead, finishing off Jacob Ojee’s spadework with Moseti converting for a 14-0 half time lead.

Homeboyz would ask questions of KCB, eventually putting points on the board through Mike Wanjala’s unconverted effort to bring the scores to 14-5.

Oliver Mang’eni would kill off Homeboyz, barging over with Moseti converting for a 21-5 full time score, KCB’s first Dala Sevens title since 2006.

The Bankers who put Lunch Bar Quins away 24-0 at Kabeberi emerged 10-0 winners over Resolution Impala Saracens, building on a 5-0 half time lead despite being denied possession for large spells to romp to the final with Darwin Mukidza and Fabian Olando crossing the tryline.

Homeboyz reached the decider with a 19-7 win over Top Fry Nakuru with their semi all square at the break.

They took the lead through Augustine Lugonzo’s converted try before Javan Murayi struck in another converted effort over the whitewash.

Further second half tries from Alvin Otieno and Leonard Mugaisi complimented by Michael Wanjala’s conversion secured their berth in the final.

The Driftwood, Prinsloo and Christie legs remain to wrap the series.
