LvG: Di Maria not a ‘miracle’

VAN-GAAL-DI-MARIA LONDON, August 29-Louis van Gaal believes Angel Di Maria can do big things with Manchester United, but has warned the club’s fans not to expect any instant success.

The Red Devils shattered the British transfer fee record this month after forking out £59.7 million for the Argentina international, who arrived from European champions Real Madrid.

Big things are now expected of the midfielder, with United having failed to win any of their first three games this season, and while Van Gaal is all too aware of his new signing’s quality, he believes he will still need a bedding-in period at Old Trafford.

“I’m very pleased that we have such a class player in our squad and it’s important he is a team player – that’s what I like about Di Maria,” van Gaal told reporters.

“He can accelerate our play but he can also play in the interests of the team and that’s why we’ve chosen him.

“I hope he shall give us good results but we can’t expect, that after two days’ training, he is the miracle I’ve read about.”
