‘I’ll frankly follow Bobby’s way,’ Nuttal pledges

FRANK-NATAL NAIROBI, Kenya, September 4 – The pressure of marking his head coaching debut at a club of such huge expectations and roaring support does not faze new Gor Mahia boss, Frank Nuttal, who settled in his new Thursday.

The Scotsman who conducted his first training session at Nairobi’s City Stadium intends to uphold the philosophy of his predecessor; Harambee Stars coach Bobby Williamson, who hand-picked him for the job.

The 46-year-old Scotsman, who was unveiled on Wednesday by club chairman Ambrose Rachier, promised the Green Army he would do his best to retain the title that was won by Williamson for the first time in 18-years last season.

“It’s a new project and strong challenge for me but I’m looking forward to it, hopefully by the end of the season we will have achieved good success. The short term goal is to win the league which is the most important rather than the philosophy that I see it as secondary.

“I promise the fans I will always try my best to make sure we deliver results. Pressure is not a problem to me I enjoy the pressure and challenge because it’s something that I’m used to in my entire coaching career so it’s comes with the job,” the UEFA PRO Licence coach stated in his acceptance speech.

Despite not having managed in Africa, Nuttall says he has been following on the club’s progress and he will have no difficulties leading them with nine matches remaining.

“I have the background of the club and it’s an honour to join Gor. People should not compare me with Williamson he is a man of his own and I different on my own.

“I believe I’m ready for the job and I will bring in my experience in football, that I’m sure will be very beneficial. My role in the past has been very detailed and technical so I’m ready to work with the rest of the officials.”

“The reason for the three-month contract is for both parties to assess each other and if I do well I’m ready to take the job permanently,” he said on his probational deal.

According to Rachier, 31 foreign and local coaches applied for the job but they settled for Nuttall not only because Williamson recommended him but due to his wealth of experience.

“We received applications from the current Esperance coach, our former coach Zdravko Logarucic and from Canon Yaounde among others and this shows the competition was so high but he (Nuttall) rose above all,” Rachier who is also the KPL chairman declared.

Also joining the technical bench is Jolawi Obondo who makes a come back to the team to retain his former role of the Team Manager.

Nuttall had stints with former English Premier League side Middlesbrough FC and Scottish Championship side Rangers FC as a fitness coach while managed Dubai based side Al Nasr FC as an assistant coach in 2006.
