Shujaa face Auckland in tough pool

AMONDE-FIJI NAIROBI, Kenya, September 25 – Champions Shujaa have been drawn in a tricky Pool A alongside New Zealand’s Auckland Metro, South African side Sharks and Germany as the 19th Safaricom Sevens get underway Friday at Kasarani Stadium.


Simba Saba headline Pool B that features Top Fry Samurai International, Spain and South African’s Golden Lions while Kenya’s second team, Morans will face Australian Iconz, Welsh Warriors and Boland in Pool C.


HSBC Sevens Series regulars Argentina will battle it out with Western Province, Suzuki Wailers and Uganda in a relatively Pool D.


Speaking when welcoming the teams, Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) Chairman Mwangi Muthee assured security, saying the office of the Inspector General of Police and the Ministry of Internal Security are in control.


“The quality of teams available promises thrills for the fans. Undoubtedly, major focus will be on how the many new players in the Kenya squads who excelled in recent domestic tournaments.


“We want to see how they will do against giants such as Samurai, New Zealand Metro and formidable sides from Australia, England, Wales, Argentina, Spain as well as South Africa,” Muthee stated.


The U-19 boys competition will kick-off the competition on the opening day with Western headlining Pool A with Rift Valley and Nairobi B while Uganda’s Kyadondo RFC are in Pool B alongside Nairobi A and Coast while Pool C pits Central, Eastern and Tanzania.


Nyanza, Rwanda and Comras will battle it in Pool D.
