village security experts took me through the rituals involved in initiating a puppy into the most feared dog in the village. Rule number one was to feed the puppy with a heavy dose of ÂweedÂ. With a few coins I bought a roll of weed each day from the broker. My innocence would not allow me to differentiate between true weed and fake shrubs. Rule number two was that sunlight was the greatest enemy of the dog. The dog should be kept in a dark wooden house for more that fourteen hours a day. Rule number three was that the dog should only eat one meal a day. Vet services were a luxury, after all even the villagers hardly consulted medics when sick. Painkillers would suffice. It was survival for the fittest. The strongest dogs would survive parvo virus and worms and in case they died, it was attributed to teething.
