Trouble at the Den as Kasaya is suspended

LEOPARDS-CELEBRATE NAIROBI, Kenya, September 25- AFC Leopards custodian Wycliffe Kasaya will miss Sunday’s GOtv Shield quarter-final against Tusker FC at Nairobi’s City Stadium after he was suspended on disciplinary grounds.

The Harambee Stars shot-stopper was cited for confronting centre referee; Haji Adede, who sent him off in their friendly against Super League side Kolongolo FC whom they whitewashed 7-1 on Wednesday.

Speaking to Capital Sport from Mumias on Thursday, Team Manager Willis Waliaula said it was unfortunate Kasaya was suspended in a time they were preparing to defend their domestic cup.

“Kasaya left camp yesterday (Wednesday) after we were told he was suspended. I don’t know what really transpired between him and the referee after he was sent-off but we will still give a good fight in Sunday’s game that he will miss.

“Martin Musalia linked up with the team yesterday and is training for the game so we are good to go,” Waliaula told.

This is not the first time Kasaya has been at loggerheads with head coach Pieter de Jongh although he attempted to salvage the situation in a post on Face Book attributed to the keeper on his wall.

“First I would like to apologise for yesterday’s incident. Personally, I think the whole issue was blown out of proportion. What really transpired was after the said referee made a wrong call, Martin Imbalabala who is my captain asked me to calm down and leave him (referee) alone,” he claimed.

“I told him the referee had issues with me and that’s why he didn’t blow the whistle. We quarrelled with him before he flashed a red card to me without saying anything.

“I remember telling him “hii ni tizi na kama unaleta grudge tizi then enyewe una mambo” (this is like training and you shouldn’t carry on our grudge to this game unless you have issues) those where my exact words,” the post added.

The latest incident piles on the woes for the giants lying 12th on the Kenyan Premier League log on 29 points after a season they have failed to hit the heights of last season when they were runner-ups to bitter rivals Gor Mah
