NAIROBI, Kenya, October 2 – Harambee Stars head coach Bobby Williamson has named eight new players for the international friendly against Morocco scheduled for October 13 in Marrakech.
Tusker FC midfielder Osborne Monday and Enoch Agwanda make a comeback for the first time since early 2013 where they featured in Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers against Burundi.
Williamson has handed Tusker custodian Samuel Odhiambo his international debut replacing AFC Leopards’ Wycliffe Kasaya alongside team-mates; defender Athman Buki and striker Clifford Alwanga.
Mathare United’s Robert Mboya, Sofapaka’s Anthony Ndolo, Bandari forward Victor Ndinya, Anthony Ndungu from Liberty Academy and Super League side West Sugar’s Nelson Simwa complete the list.
The Scotsman has called four foreign based players led by captain and English Premier League side Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama, Ayub Timbe who plies his trade in Belgium, El-Merreikh forward Allan Wanga and Norway side Lillestrome first choice keeper Arnold Origi who returns after featuring last in May against Comoros in Moroni.
Among the notable players dropped are South Africa based David Gateri, Sudan based Anthony Akumu, Thika United’s forward David Kinga’atua, Leopards Jacob Keli and Sofapaka’s Clifton Miheso.
The squad of 31 will see local based players report to residential training camp on Saturday at Kasarani Stadium while the three foreign based will link up with the final team next Wednesday.
Morocco the hosts of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations finals are not engaged in the ongoing qualifiers for the continental showdown and will be using the buildup match as part of their preparations.
Stars return to North Africa just one month after going down 1-0 to host and five time African champions Egypt in Aswan.
