MANCHESTER, October 9-Sir Alex Ferguson says he believes that Louis van Gaal made the right decision by dismantling the Manchester United squad which he inherited.
Van Gaal has wasted little time in making his own mark on the Red Devils squad, spending an estimated £150m in the off-season transfer window, while allowing veterans Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra to leave, with homegrown products Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley also deemed surplus to requirements.
The Dutchman has come in for criticism for the makeup of his squad, but Ferguson believes that he has gone about his business well.
“Louis van Gaal has made a lot of changes and, thinking about that, actually maybe he’s doing the right thing to clear the decks and build his own team,” the Scot told MUTV.
“He’s got the experience and the coaching ability to do that. The way he’s approached it, I think, has been brilliant.”
