TEHRAN, November 2- Iran’s warm up match against Kenya which was supposed to be played on November 14 in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium has been cancelled, Tehran Times daily reported on Sunday.
“Kenya Football Federation has asked USD50,000 (Sh4,467,500) dollars in addition to travel expenses and that is not a usual request for a team ranked 116 in the FIFA ranking,” Iran’s Football Federation President Ali Kaffashian was quoted as saying.
Iran is preparing itself for the 2015 AFC Asian Cup. The Carlos Quieroz team has been pitted against the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar and Bahrain in Group C of the tournament which will be held in Australia from January 9 to 31.
Iran is looking for a new African team to play with on November 14 in a friendly match, the Tehran Times said.
Iran is also going to meet South Korea in a friendly ahead of the 2015 AFC Asian Cup in Tehran and will play another friendly with Iraq in Sydney ahead of the match against Bahrain.
