>>> Jeptoo B-test on Wednesday, AK bans two

RITA-JEPTOO-FACE NAIROBI, December 15- The B-Sample urine test of two-time Boston and Chicago marathon women champion, Rita Jeptoo will be conducted on Wednesday, Athletics Kenya (AK) declared on Monday.

At the same time, the federation has slapped two year competition bans on Viola Chelangat Kimetto and Joyce Jemutai Kiplimo for Norandosterone abuse whilst the case of Philip Kibiwot Kandie will be reviewed on Thursday.

Jeptoo caused international consternation when she became the biggest Kenyan distance runner to be caught in the doping web when her A-Sample returned adverse results for banned blood booster EPO.

“The case involving this athlete was in regard to the urine sample collected out of competition in Eldoret on 25th September 2014. The sample provided revealed the presence of prohibited substance Erythropoietin (EPO).

“The first hearing for this case was held on 4th November 2014. The athlete applied for the testing of the B sample which will be conducted on 17th to 19th December 2014. Athletics Kenya will resume working on this case once the results of the B sample are announced,” an AK statement on doping said.

Jeptoo’s shocking drug bust was revealed days before she left for New York to accept her equal share of the USD 1m World Marathon Majors jackpot after she successfully held on to her Chicago crown following a repeat triumph in Boston in April.

“The case involving this athlete was in regard to the urine sample collected in competition during the Macau Galaxy Entertainment International Marathon held on 1st December 2013.

The sample provided revealed the presence of prohibited substance Norandosterone. Following the hearings and upon evaluating the details of the case in consultation with the IAAF, Athletics Kenya has handed Ms. Kimetto a 2 year sanction in reference to IAAF Rule 40.11 (b). The sanction is effective from 12th October 2014,” the federation wrote on Chelangat Kimetto following a meeting of the AK Medical and Anti-doping Commission to look into recent and pending cases held on December 10.

“The case involving this athlete was in regard to the urine sample collected in competition during the Yangzhou Jianzen International Half Marathon, held in Yangzhou China on 20th April 2014.

“The sample provided revealed the presence of prohibited substance Norandosterone. Following the hearings and upon evaluating the details of the case in consultation with the IAAF, Athletics Kenya has handed Ms. Kiplimo a 2 year sanction in reference to IAAF Rule 40.11 (b). The sanction is effective from 20th April 2014,” it added on Jemutai Kiplimo.

Kandie’s case will be discussed further by the commission on a urine sample collected in competition during the Media Marathon BAM Max Tott held in Guatemala City in January.

Maunga James Nyakabira, Ndirangu Alice, Elizabeth Jebet Chelagat, Isaac Kimaiyo Kemboi and Bernard Mwendia Muthoni have been contacted by AK to respond to concerns on potential doping violations.

-ARD reports denied-

Meanwhile, the federation has denied receiving information from world body IAAF that 25 Kenyan runners had suspect blood passports as claimed by German television ARD in their explosive expose on drug abuse in Russia.

“In regard to the recent media coverage on allegations carried by the German ARD documentary, where it is alleged that 150 athletes among them 25 Kenyans had suspicious blood values and were NOT subject to proper targeted testing afterwards, AK would like to state that it has not received any formal communication in regard to the above said 25 athletes.

“However, Athletics Kenya is aware of the IAAF communication and response about the recent media coverage on the same matter,” the statement added.
