NAIROBI, December 15- Sofapaka have confirmed the capture of former Gor Mahia midfielder Kevin Omondi on a two-year deal after losing utility player Antony Kimani who moved to Bandari.
Omondi was released by Kenyan Premier League champions K’Ogalo towards the close of last season in a much publicised move to South African side Moroka Swallows, but failure to obtain a work permit and a change of heart from the club saw the move collapse.
The midfielder came back to the country and Gor whose faithful christened him Ade were said to be interested in his services, but Batoto ba Mungu captured him before his former club could move in.
“He has signed a two year contract and we are very happy to land him because he is a good player and one who will add a lot of value to us especially ahead of our continental assignments.
“There are more players we are looking at and by midweek we should have finalized our transfer business,” Sofapaka President Elly Kalekwa told Capital Sport.
Kimani leaves Sofapaka and joins Bandari who are seeking to for a better season after finishing in the bottom half of the table last term.
The Coastal side has already landed Nakuru All Stars winger John Ndirangu and City Stars Ugandan duo of Lawrence Kasaadha and George Abege.
At Bandari, ‘Muki’ as Kimani is popularly known as will re-unite with former team mates Abdulatiff Omar, Wilson Obungu and Yussuf Juma.
Elsewhere, Thika United have warned suitors they will not be releasing any of their players after dropping five.
This will be especially tough for former Coach John Kamau who had hoped to bring in striker David King’atua to his new station Posta Rangers, with chairman John Tonui last week saying they had engaged Thika in talks.
Edward Njung’e, Allan Owiyo, Michael Wanyika,Moses Odhiambo and Bernard Meki have all been released by the club.
“The above mentioned players are the only ones free to engage with interested clubs, the rest of our players are not on sale and anyone contacting our players without our consent is doing so illegally.
“The team has also renewed contracts with key players and is planning to replace the five and we will make it public in due course.” Thika said in a statement on their official website.
With the departure of Kamau, the club is currently being handled by assistant coach Moses Irungu.
