>>> Ghana AFCON budget to be publicized

GHANA-TRAIN-2

ACCRA, Ghana, January 14 -Ghana’s sports ministry will make the Black Stars’ Afcon 2015 budget a matter of public record.

The perennial tussle between fans and public officials has been ongoing, following the constant complaints of a lack of accountancy by Ghanaians.

The country took about USD8 million to the last African Cup in 2013, and then had about USD 4 million airlifted to Brazil at the last World Cup.

That was separate from amounts allocated for a World Cup projects committee for other functions.

With these in mind, the Ghanaian public was largely glad when reports emerged in the last few weeks that the sports ministry had rejected a budget of USD 9.6 million presented by the FA for this year’s tournament.

Although the ministry denied these reports, the outfit did slash the bonus arrangements of the Black Stars, which was widely applauded by the public, too.

“The Minister (Mahama Ayariga) will make the budget known before the tournament starts,” deputy minister Vincent Oppong Asamoah said on UTV, an Accra-based television outfit.

“We don’t want a repeat of what happened in Brazil. We are aware of the fact that the general public need to know the team’s budget for the tournament hence the sector minister has decided to make the budget known before the tournament starts.”

Team captain Asamoah Gyan has already assured fans that there will be no repeats of the bonus rows ever again.

Ghana, currently in Spain for camping, are set to leave for Equatorial Guinea on Wednesday.
