GYAN-SACRIFICE

MANGOMO,Equatorial Guinea, January 18 – Ghana skipper Asamoah Gyan is doubtful for Monday’s Africa Cup of Nations Group C clash against Senegal after receiving treatment for malaria.

Gyan was admitted to hospital with symptoms of “mild malaria” in Mongomo on Saturday but he was discharged on Sunday, the Ghana Football Federation (GFA) reported on their website.

The GFA said they will continue to monitor the striker who plays his club football in the United Arab Emirates.

Gyan did not train with the rest of his team-mates on Sunday, instead remaining at the side of the pitch in Mongomo, according to an AFP reporter at the ground.

“We will have to wait until tomorrow to see if Gyan can make the game,” said Ghana coach Avram Grant at a press conference.

“He is a very important player for us, with everything he has done for the Black Stars, so of course we would like him to play.

“If it is not the case it will be a little bit harder for us but we will our best without him.”
