Teenagers in Thailand have been told to use smaller condoms.
The country’s Ministry for Public Health has issued the plea because it found that younger boys are buying ill-fitting contraceptive devices to impress their friends.
By doing so, however, they risk spreading STDs, as the condoms will not serve their intended purpose.
Somchaichote Piyawatchwela – the spokesperson for the ministry – said oversized condoms can “slip in action”, meaning they fail to do their job.
Thai government figures show an increase in sexually transmitted diseases in recent years among young people.
