Zhengzhou Week introduces the history and culture of Henan and Zhengzhou to the Kenyan people and showcases their local urban economic development.
The week is also aimed to elevate cultural interaction between the two nations to new levels.
Kenyans will also have a chance to know more about the folkways of Zhengzhou, the glamour of Henan and the charm of Chinese culture.
Zhengzhou is now the capital of Henan Province. Songshan Mountain, located in Zhengzhou, is praised as the “Central Mountain” of China Songshan Mountain as well as its Shaolin Temple enjoys great prestige both in China and the world.
Chairman of the Defence and Foreign Relations Committee of the National Assembly Ndung’u Gethenji, CEO of ICT Authority of Kenya Victor Kyalo, Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Liu Xianfa and head of the Zhengzhou delegation Wang Zhe, who is also member of the Zhengzhou standing committee, attended the ceremony at a Nairobi hotel.
A Kenyan martial arts team from the CRI Confucius Classroom in Hospital Hill High School gave a performance while monks in the delegation demonstrated Chinese kung fu, including qigong, a traditional Chinese health and exercise system.
One qigong master threw a common needle through a piece of glass held by his colleague to burst a balloon on the other side of the glass.
Monks also showed how they handle traditional Chinese weapons. The youngest monk in the team is only six years old.
