NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 16 – COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli and Federation of Kenya Employers Executive Director Jacqueline Mugo were on Wednesday appointed back as members of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) Board of Trustees.
Atwoli and Mugo will serve as members of the board for the next three years with effect from September 16, 2015.
Acting Labour Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo has also appointed a new chairperson at the NSSF.
“The Acting Cabinet Secretary for Labour, Social Security and Services appoints Kariithi Murage Murimi to be member and Chairperson of the National Social Security Fund Board of Trustees up to 1st February, 2018, with effect from 16th September, 2015, and revokes the appointment of Charity Seleina Kisotu,” the gazette notice indicated.
Atwoli and Mugo were retired from the board by suspended Labour Cabinet Secretary Kazungu Kambi because they had served for more than two terms.
Atwoli had served for 15 years and Mugo 11 years.
However, Atwoli moved to court to challenge his removal from the board.
He told the court that Kambi’s move to eject him from the board was oppressive.
Omamo further appointed Patrick Onyango and Lyn Cherop revoking the appointment of Andrew Muigai and Veska Jepkemboi Kangogo.
Onyango and Cherop will serve from September 16, 2015 to January 12, 2017.
NSSF has been facing a major corruption scam which resulted in Kambi being asked to step aside after President Uhuru Kenyatta handed over 124 files to be investigated over corruption allegations.
Kambi is also under probe over allegations that he breached procurement regulations after the NSSF board awarded a Sh130 billion tender for two projects without giving way for competitive tendering.
