NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 8 – Exhibitors at the 2015 Total Motorshow are expecting to double their deals in this edition, compared to 2013.

The show is anticipating to double its number of visitors to 30,000 from 15, 000 recorded in 2013.

Simba Corporation Chief Executive Adil Popat says the show comes at an opportune time when the country
has so many opportunities in the transport sector.

Popat who predicts that the transport sector will grow by 20 percent in 2015 says opportunities like devolution and infrastructure projects will propel transport companies to greater heights.

“We are seeing a lot of opportunities in devolution with counties in need of tractors, ambulances and just cars for use, other infrastructure projects like the Standard Gauge Railway and mining also present great opportunities,” Popat said.

He raised concerns over the weakening of the shilling pointing out it’s eroding profits and anticipates motor vehicles to get more expensive as the local currency weakens further against the dollar.

“In the future, we will see local companies who import in dollars, selling in dollars in a bid to avoid the losses brought by the exchange rate,” he said.

He added that there needs to be a transport policy that will guide the industry going forward and deal with issues like striking a balance between importation of old vehicles and new vehicles.

The Total Motorshow is set to be held from September 11 to 13.

The event brings together players in the formal motor industry and allied services that include auto accessories, insurance, financial Institutions, vehicle rental services, vehicle tracking among others.

“Last year, we invested about Sh8 million, we have now more than doubled our investments and we will be showcasing our six brands that includes tractors, our new ventures,” Popat said.

On show will be the latest model of cars, pickups, trucks tractors motorcycles among others.

You can shop for a car, motorbikes and even make deals with insurance companies and financial institutions.

The show which started in 1994 is hosted after every two years in conjunction with the Kenya Motor Industry Association.
