NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 2 – Jamii Bora Bank has commenced the construction of a Sh400 million head office building in Kilimani area, Nairobi.
The building that will see the bank move its administrative functions from its current headquarters on Koinange Street will take 18 months to complete.
Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony, CEO Sam Kimani said the bank will spend an estimated Sh250 million to erect the building and about Sh150 million on finishings.
“This is an important phase in the ongoing growth of the bank as it enables us to consolidate all our head office departments in one centre while also giving us the opportunity to put up a flagship branch within our new headquarters,” Kimani said.
The bank had identified Appropriate Technicians as contractors for the project while Nature Architects are responsible for the designs and supervision.
“The building will have 11 levels comprising a lower ground floor parking, an upper ground floor parking and banking hall, eight office floors and one roof top terrace that will house a restaurant, gym, boardrooms and a mothers’ room,” he added.
In the new building, total office space will account for 42,000 square feet with the flagship branch covering 5,300 square feet. It will also house the bank’s data centre.
“We view this as a big step in our efforts to take JBBL to the next level as the new property will provide adequate sitting space for our staff and an exciting banking environment for our customers while also enabling us to reduce rental costs,” said the CEO.
The bank currently houses its staff at its Jamii Bora House on Koinange Street with a few departments housed in rented space at Pension Towers.
