LONDON, June 16- Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that exciting forward Joel Campbell will return to the London club following the World Cup in Brazil.
The 21-year-old, who enjoyed a successful loan spell at Greek outfit Olympiacos last season, picked up the man-of-the-match award in Costa Rica’s opening game as they recorded a 3-1 victory over Uruguay.
And it seems Wenger, amongst others, has certainly taken note of Campbell’s exploits over the past year.
“He will definitely come back to us for pre-season,” Wenger told the Daily Mail.
“He is maturing well.”
Campbell joined the Gunners in 2011 from Costa Rican outfit Deportivo Saprissa, but has yet to make a first-team appearance for the London club.
The club were initially unable to obtain a work permit for Campbell but eventually secured it in 2013.
Meanwhile, Costa Rica coach Paulo Wanchope has revealed that Campbell is keen to return to Arsenal and stake his claim for a place in the squad.
Wanchope told the Daily Telegraph: “He really wants to go back to Arsenal and play and I told him that the only way to do that is on the pitch.
“He did well today (against Uruguay) and I think that he needs to perform even better against Italy and then England to have that chance to go back to Arsenal.”
