Striking Injera, 5 aces axed from Safari 7s

INJERA-GOLD-COAST NAIROBI, Kenya, September 24- Celebrated national team vice-captain and record Kenya international try scorer, Collins Injera, is among the six seasoned players axed from the squad for this weekend’s Safaricom Safari 7s for the continued strike that has crippled preparations for the upcoming season.

Strathmore Leos Billy Odhiambo, Mwamba’s Horace Otieno, Fly half Biko Adema, KCB captain Philip Wamae, Lunch Bar Quins Patrice Agunda and Eden Agero are the other regulars dropped from the squad distributed across the three sides, Shujaa, Moran and Simba Saba that will represent the nation in the annual invitational showpiece.

Fellow core team players; Homeboyz Oscar Ayodi, Nakuru’s Oscar Ouma and Felix Kayange are ruled out with injuries.

Speaking during the naming of the team; KRU chairman Mwangi Muthee warned the dissenting players they would “Not tolerate indiscipline in the squad,” adding, “Experienced players should lead by example which they failed.”

He added they want to give young players a chance to see what they will bring to the team while reiterating the technical bench is finalising performance contacts for players that will be drafted for the forthcoming 2014/15 HSBC World Series.

The proposed performance pegged deals has caused the rift between KRU and the core players who were on central contracts leading to the strike that spilled into the second week.
