GOR-SIGNINGS

NAIROBI, Kenya, January 15 – Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia has axed newly signed players, Ugandan Farouq Ssentongo and forward James Ohawa only a week after they were unveiled by the club.

The duo were dropped on Thursday by head coach Frank Nuttall for failing to meet the team’s standards and being ‘immature’ to play for Gor.

Club deputy Secretary General, Ronald Ngala told Capital Sport they signed the two who are among 12 newcomers under the guidance of the assistant coach, Frank Ouna since the coach was away on holiday.

“The coach had given indications of positions to be filled and although we didn’t consult him on the kind of players he wanted, the technical bench left behind led by Ouna advice us accordingly.

“The coach said Ssentongo and Ohawa need more time and might not engage them in his squad since they are too immature to play for a big club like Gor. We are deliberating on sending them on loan or play for our junior team,” Ngala stated.

Nuttall is closely monitoring Ghanaian Zachary Toufiq and former Harambee Stars midfielder Jerry Santos who are likely to be chopped too according to the deputy Secretary General.

“The coach approved the squad but said he could drop Toufiq and Santos since they have not being playing in quite some time. We want to work with what the coach wants because he has a three year plan to form a formidable team by 2017.

“We are working on replacing the two dropped players and talks are in an advanced stage, by Friday we should have competed on the wingers.”

K’Ogalo who are preparing for their CAF Champions League opener against Madagascar’s CNAPS are eying a Burundian and Rwandan full-backs.
