LONDON, England, May 22- Yaya Toure’s agent insists that his client’s recent statement of unhappiness is not an attempt to force Manchester City into improving his contract.
The midfielder has dominated the headlines in recent days after his agent, Dimitri Seluk, said that the Ivory Coast international may leave City because he felt he wasn’t shown due respect on his birthday.
Toure claims that the club’s owners did not acknowledge his birthday while the team were on a celebratory trip to Dubai, while Seluk criticised the fact that Toure had only been given a cake for his birthday while the owners of Russian team Anzhi Makhachkala once gave Roberto Carlos a luxury sports car for his birthday.
However, Seluk insists that Toure’s unhappiness – which has for the most part been labelled as rather bizarre – is not a ploy to get an improved contract.
“People think we did this because we want to change the contract, to make more money,” Seluk told BBC Sport.
“About money, the contract is OK. For us the most important is attention from the club to whom Yaya gives a lot.”
Toure made a statement on Tuesday backing what his agent had said and asserting that he will reveal all after the World Cup.
